PickupLink for parents
Your school uses PickupLink so that your child is only ever released to an adult the school has on file. For you it is one email and one tap. Here is exactly what to expect.
What you will get
Your school's office adds you as a parent or approved adult. You do not sign up, download anything or choose a password. About 15 minutes before your child's dismissal time, PickupLink emails you a link. The email comes from your school through PickupLink and says which child and which time it is for. The link is yours alone and works until the pickup window closes.
How to check in
-
Step 1
Open the email when you arrive.
Tap the link. It opens your check-in page in the phone’s browser. No sign-in is needed.
-
Step 2
Tap "I’m here".
Your phone asks to share your location. Allow it, with precise location on if it asks. This confirms you are at the school before your child is brought out.
-
Step 3
Wait for your child.
Your child’s teacher sees your name on their screen the moment you check in and brings your child out to you. Please stay in the pickup line; the school’s own dismissal rules still apply.
Why the page asks for your location
To make sure the "I'm here" tap really comes from the school's pickup area and not from someone across town. Your location is checked once, at the moment you tap, and is not tracked afterwards. There is no app running on your phone. If your phone reports a spot outside the pickup area, the page shows you a map of where it thinks you are so you can see why, and you can try again once you are in the line.
If your phone cannot find its location at all, the page lets you check in without it. The school sees that your check-in was not location-verified and may ask you to confirm you are there.
More than one child
One tap covers every child of yours with the same dismissal time. Children with different dismissal times, or at different schools, each get their own email and link. If you have a kindergartner at 2:50 and a fourth-grader at 3:05, you will get two emails and tap twice.
When someone else is picking up
Only adults your school has on file with permission to pick up receive check-in links. If a grandparent, a sitter or a carpool parent will be collecting your child, ask the school office to add them as an approved adult; they will then get their own email before dismissal. Please do not forward your link: any check-in made with it is recorded in your name.
If something goes wrong
-
No email arrived. Check your spam folder, then confirm with the office that they have the right address for you. You can also sign in any time at the parent sign-in page with the email your school has on file to get a fresh link.
-
Phone is dead or has no signal. Tell the staff member at the pickup line. They press "Parent here" on the board and your arrival is recorded in your name.
-
Early release or a schedule change. The school sends a new email when it dismisses early; the link inside works right away.
-
Wrong child or wrong time on the email. The office fixes it in the roster. Let them know.
Your privacy and what it costs you
PickupLink holds your name, your email address, your relationship to your child and each day's pickup record, given to it by your school for the sole purpose of running dismissal. It does not track your location, does not sell data and does not show you advertising. Parents never pay anything; the school subscribes. Questions about your data go to your school first, or to [email protected].
Common questions
Do I need to download an app to pick up my child?
No. PickupLink is a web page. Your school emails you a link before dismissal; tap it, tap "I’m here" when you are at the school, and the teacher sees that you have arrived. No app, no account, no password.
Can I check in before I leave the house?
If your school has set a pickup area, the tap only counts once your phone is inside it, so check in when you reach the school. The link itself can be opened early; it will simply tell you check-in is not open yet or that you are outside the pickup area.
What does the teacher see about me?
Your name, your relationship to your child, and the time you checked in. If you checked in without location the board says so. The teacher does not see a map of where you are.
